A moment of hesitation: a lifetime of repercussions. Everything is in place: a beautiful resort drenched in sunshine, lazing holiday-makers, a middle-aged married couple, PAUL and REBECCA, reading by the poolside.
When a spirited French boy tears his way through the picture-perfect scene, happily oblivious to the noise and disruption his games and childish antics cause, he becomes the all-encompassing focus of Paula's irritation.
Paula's dissatisfaction with his mundane life fuels his disgust; with every cheeky laugh and prolonged stare, his irritation mounts uncontrollably until it becomes an irrational hatred. When an accident puts the child in need of help Paul is so consumed with his fixation, that he finds himself paralysed, unable to act. having witnessed this moment of weakness, Rebecca will never look at her husband in the same light again.
Hesitation explores the ambiguities of human morality, challenging accepted presumptions about human nature and leaving the audience provokedand contemplative.
